Red Wing High School is a public high school located in Red Wing, Minnesota.  Our community is located in the Mississippi River Valley, fifty miles southeast of the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area. The school is part of the Red Wing Independent School District and serves approximately 980-1,000 students in grades 8-12.  RWHS operates on a modified block system and allows students to take eight half-credit courses each semester.  Students are able to choose from a wide variety of courses in agriculture, art, business, family and consumer science,  health, industrial technology, language arts, math, music, physical education, science, social studies, and world languages.  We also have an amazing special education department, counseling department and team of support staff to help all students to be successful.   

Red Wing High School students are engaged in a wide array of co-curricular activities including athletics, academic activities, music, theater, fine arts and a wide variety of clubs.  As a school, we are proud to team up with organizations like the Red Wing Environmental Learning Center, Red Wing Manufacturer's Association, Red Wing Chamber of Commerce, Every Hand Joined and so many more community groups and members whose interest is in ensuring that all of our students feel supported and successful.

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a general term that refers to positive behavioral interventions and systems used to achieve important behavior changes.The most effective tool teachers have to handle problem behavior is to prevent it from occurring in the first place.  PBIS strategies are critical to providing all young people with the best learning environment. 

Red Wing High School is a PBIS School, focusing on Winger Pride: Respectful, Responsible and Proud.  

 

Building: 
Our current building was built in 1995. 






Prior to that Red Wing High School was housed in Old Central High, which has now been converted into beautiful condos.  The Old Central building just celebrated it's 102nd birthday!  Here's a story with some history on the building.






Notable Artwork: As students, staff and guests enter the main doors of our building, they are greeted to the beautiful site and sounds of Goodhue County sculptor Jeff Barber's bronze-cast eagle statue.   The artwork, titled "Departure," soars over the locker bay, framed by tall windows that give views to the surrounding landscapes and accompanied by the sounds of the fountain below.

​​Commencement: Red Wing High School commencement ceremonies are held the first Friday of June each year.  Location of the ceremonies is determined by the weather and is held either at the Russ "Cougar" Marshall Field or in the Larry Sonju Gymnasium.
